Flat Iron per se is not a restaurant that caters for children. There is no kids menu and their mains menu is entirely made of stakes.
The sides are also not particuarly kids friendly, with their truffled maccaroni cheese and crispy bone marrow garlic mash. Why did I give it a rating of 4 I hear you ask? Because if you fancy a GOOD steak, but you have kids in tow, this is the place for you. We went to the Waterloo branch on a Friday at lunchtime and arrived early, our booking was for 12noon which is when they open, and we were first in. I specified on my booking that our party was made of two adults and two kids and that I was taking a pushchair with me, and we were given a great table, near the window around the corner on the left, with lots of space for the pushchair. We were given a high chair for Benny, our 15 months old. Teddy, our 4 years old, LOVED being handed a mugful of popcorn right away. If you are concerned about the food choices, you can feed your kids before going, or bring something with you. We didn't, and ordered a Flat Iron steak well done for them, and some chips.
The meat comes cut into strips and despite being well done, it was super tender. We cut it really small for Benny (I am terrified of chocking) and gave strips to Teddy. The soft drinks were also a hit with Teddy who downed most of an Almond and Lime House Fizz. At the end of the meal the kids were offered a small cup of their vanilla soft serve ice cream for free. At the end of the meal we were also handed 4 tokens, to exchange for free ice cream there and then or any time at any Flat Iron restaurant (there are 12 in London!) with ot without a meal. The staff were great, all very friendly with us and the kids. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was relaxed and the price was more than fair given the quality.
